As you may have heard, Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been taken from his own home at gunpoint Wednesday night. He was kidnapped by 4 armed men but other than this, we do not have much information.  The car has been found abandoned about an hour away from Ramos’ home hut there is still no sign of the 24-year-old. The Nationals along with Major League Baseball issued a statement Thursday have issued a statement saying the following, “Our foremost concern is with Wilson Ramos and his family and our thoughts are with them at this time. Major League Baseball’s department of investigations is working with the appropriate authorities on this matter. Both Major League Baseball and the Washington Nationals have been instructed to make no further comment.”

This was Ramos’ first full season in the big leagues. He hit .267 with 15 homers as the everyday catcher. This is thought to be the first kidnapping of a Major League Baseball player. However, many relatives of players have had this happen to them including former pitcher Victor Zambrano.

This kidnapping is a very serious matter, ballplayer or not. Ramos was playing in the Winter league for the Tigres de Aragua. Everyone’s thoughts are with Wilson and his family. We hope for the best in this young man returning safely.
